Send me a Trope, genre, type of fic, fandom, pairing, etc., etc. and I’ll rate it!

Ohhhh it was so good, and I'm forever angery that at least one of the seasons never made it onto Finnish Netflix. It's not a show that becomes a fandom for me because for me, there wasn't much left unexplored, but I especially related to Sherlock's back and forth flirting with addictions to replace his drug addiction, it felt so true to life and so relatable. Also Lucy Liu fucking killed it, and I don't think people talk enough about what a good Modern Watson she made.

Hrrrr. "Hot for teacher" and other formal power imbalances do a ton of fun to the dynamic of a ship, me likey.
Shakespeare's plays

We weren't made to read a ton of Shakespeare at school and the theaters I went to ran lots of Finnish playwrights or modern theater (fun fact! My mom was a member of the university theater club! I used to spend time as a Vanling in the prop warehouse looking at Cool Stuff) so I am incredibly not familiar with Shakespeare as a whole. But then again, I've seen at least one really good staging of As You Like It, which I liked. Plays are hard to judge on their own, there are a lot of them I like on paper but have never found staged in a satisfying manner.

Date: 10/4/19 22:44 (UTC)I'm surprised you didn't read a lot of Shakespeare, though, since it feels like a kind of universal constant/rite of passage.

Date: 11/4/19 02:52 (UTC)I sometimes feel like it might do the world good if they'd also read "Seitsemän veljestä" and "Tuntematon sotilas". Maybe we'd be in little less of a crush to elevate the English canon if texts from minority languages where platformed and analysed more.

Date: 14/4/19 23:04 (UTC)As somebody who has read a fair amount of Spanish/Latin American literature in both Spanish and translated English, I agree that it would be great for just everybody in general to platform texts from other languages. With Spanish in particular, there's the entire genre of magical realism which is native to it, not to mention all the important political thought that began with latinx writers.
