The ending to Death Stranding is pretty emotional, and I can't wait to see Americans misrepresent the fuck out of it.

Like this might be particularly petty because I have one really vivid instance of this in my experience banks but what some Americans don't seem to get is that not every story about America is done from an American perspective, and that there are times you will miss out on important cultural context if you assume the same frame as an American would use for their self-representation.

To be clear -- in practice this does just boil down to "appropriating American culture", but you can't become a cultural hegemony and a political and philosophical symbol without people then choosing to use that symbol in their work, divorced from the real-world context of the signifier, just how the cultural majority uses everything else.

(And the interesting stuff in Death Stranding isn't even political, and the stuff that is isn't as interesting as the sociological stuff, which frankly cannot be divorced from the context of who made this game.)

Congratulations for Death Stranding for having like three different endings before finally actually managing to end on a fairly confusing note.

... assuming that was the ending. I'm unconvinced.

Do you ever read something that just takes the joy out of the concept of writing for you entirely?

I don't want to just be someone who constantly just writes about my negative feelings and nothing else, but lately, that's really the only thing I feel I can connect to. My positive feelings are fairly straightforward to understand -- I enjoy thing because it lights up some part of my brain and I'm pretty good at pinpointing what that is -- but negative feelings are more nebulous and feel more like they don't particularly want me to understand them.

IDK if there's a line I should worry about crossing so I don't accidentally dip into mindless dwelling on how My Brain Feels Bad and waste energy I could maybe direct to more constructive thoughts.

Yeah?

When did it turn into a running gag that I have Bulkhead comment that someone is "not his type" because I never actually go into detail anywhere on what his type is?

I guess Bulk having high standards is just really good comedy fodder, idk.

Ugh, nothing I wanna write about feels worth writing about.

You know you're desperate when you're just refreshing your "reading" page hoping one of the people who make your mind go apeshit because everything they do is so good would post something so you would have something satisfying to read and wouldn't think about how unsatisfying your own writing is to you rn.

Not gonna name names but some of what y'all post is literally the only reason I haven't given into despair yet.
