Like this might be particularly petty because I have one really vivid instance of this in my experience banks but what some Americans don't seem to get is that not every story about America is done from an American perspective, and that there are times you will miss out on important cultural context if you assume the same frame as an American would use for their self-representation.

To be clear -- in practice this does just boil down to "appropriating American culture", but you can't become a cultural hegemony and a political and philosophical symbol without people then choosing to use that symbol in their work, divorced from the real-world context of the signifier, just how the cultural majority uses everything else.

(And the interesting stuff in Death Stranding isn't even political, and the stuff that is isn't as interesting as the sociological stuff, which frankly cannot be divorced from the context of who made this game.)
