I enjoy how Rekudo still gets both people being mad at me for saying "maybe understand that you doing nothing to engage the authors writing the fics you like so much demotivates those authors" and saying "an automated comment from someone who reread your fic and forgot they'd left kudos already may be the first and only comment someone might be able and willing to send".
Like it was one thing if either of those were my stated goal but like shit, I just made a tool. At this point it's up to people to figure out how to use that tool for themselves. If people think someone is using a tool I made wrong, take it up with those people instead of leaving me condescending comments about either Wrong Way of Doing It.

Date: 10/8/22 01:36 (UTC)The condescension is really what gets me. "If you have nothing to say then don't say anything" why are you saying that as an addition at the end of my reply about how Rekudo came about at least partially out of desperation to get readers to understand writers are people too.

Date: 10/8/22 02:41 (UTC)Like I have a lot of things that I don't say not because I don't want to say them but because: anxiety! Brainweird makes it hard to say(/type) the words in a lot of ways! How nice that there's at least one easy little script people can use to get past said brainweird!

Date: 11/8/22 09:52 (UTC)YEAH EXACTLY that was my reaction to people being like "but I don't want to leave a comment, I just want to be able to click like again" like cool, don't install Rekudo and go talk to Ao3 about changing how kudos works!
I have slightly more sympathy for people who are like "I don't like the idea of receiving automated comments" but it's limited because all of them a) act like I think automated comments are the end-all-be-all of solving the feedback problem and b) most of them have said something about "leaving a real comment" instead while ignoring that Rekudo also comes with the "comment assist mode" by default now and it actually gives people actionable advice on how to leave a personalised comment, lmao.

Date: 11/8/22 09:46 (UTC)Yep, when I initially posted about it elsewhere, a bunch of people assumed that I had no problems leaving comments ever because as a writer, jokes about not being able to give more kudos annoy me. Like, I posted about it on the vent thread, and still people crawled up my ass about how insensitive I was being towards people too anxious or simply unwilling to leave comments.
And at the same time, entitled writers come onto the Rekudo post on Tumblr all the time to complain about how they don't want people leaving thoughtless "super like" comments, and if readers don't have anything intelligent to say they shouldn't say anything. Truly, the internet once again proves to be unpleasable.

Date: 11/8/22 19:59 (UTC)yeah like the vent thread thing stuck to me because... it was the vent thread. I was venting anger and frustration, trying to be constructive about it, and all people had to say to that was "this does not solve the problem I have with leaving comments".
Like, wow! Sorry to hear that! In that case, Rekudo isn't for you! Jesus wept.

Date: 11/8/22 18:44 (UTC)People really make up reasons to be mad online at people who didn’t do anything to them. :T

Date: 11/8/22 19:53 (UTC)I think the thing that annoys me the most is the assumptions about my motivations. Like if they asked me, I would tell them that Rekudo is for people to get off the treadmill of clicking kudos and think about whether or not they want the author to know they really enjoy this work. And sometimes the answer to that is "no" -- that's why Rekudo takes by default two clicks to send the message.
Like tbh the people complaining that I'm mean to audiences who don't want to comment are way more right than the people who whinge about how 'extra kudos!' is not meaningful feedback. Like, no shit -- that's not what Rekudo is for! It's a tool to get away from the habit-forming behaviour of clicking like and doing jack all else!

Date: 12/8/22 08:02 (UTC)…I use an iPad to read fic 99% of the time so no ad-ons for me until I get an android tablet. Because I think this tool would actually be pretty useful for me.
Anyway this has spurred me to go though my recent bookmarks and leave comments on those fics.
