Watching my friend play Pokémon SwSh and we got to talking

I don't get the point of Dynamaxing when Mega Evolutions exist and they weren't developed outside of the XY games. The way they're contextualised in-game, as something that happens because of the type of terrain the Pokémon, feels sort of half-assed when the Mega Stones already existed, and could just as well be used for the same purpose, y'know? Instead of Power Spots, the dens could be inside Mega Stone geodes that are charged up.

You could literally call it Max Evolution, and explain that the Mega Evolution explanation we got was more about the trainer providing the energy, whereas around Mega Geodes the Pokémon can do it without a trainer.
