Is this primarily about how your own reaction to fic doesn't seem to have much bearing on how much other people like it?

Because yeah I know that feel, lol.

That is exactly it. This person, entirely unprompted, brought up a 2000 word car crash I'm still not sure I like that I threw on my Ao3 out of sheer creative frustration, and they singled it out as "one of their favourites".

Someone needs to find a way to bottle and sell this feeling 8')

And what about when people LOVE the stuff you wrote when you had barely started writing and it makes you cringe so much that you can't even reread it! Like ten years ago I went through a lot of Feelings about it and wanting to argue every time I got feedback on pieces I didn't like. I mostly restrained the impulse, but there were times when it's too bad a time traveler me wasn't there to stop me...
