I think, if I could have one thing rn, is that people would stop acting like the only people internationally who cared about the outcome of this election are liberally brainrotted people who think the system works.

I knew that no matter how this turned out, after we joined NATO Finland is now inextricably a part of the International Misery Production Network. The only direction joining NATO provided was deeper into imperialism. But now I also have to think about whether or not Russia has the military capacity to be fighting multifront wars, on top of already thinking about how to keep fighting for Ukraine.

Under Harris, I wouldn't have at least had to worry about the US reneging on all its NATO "commitments" (came back to add scarequotes around "commitments" because as far as I can tell, NATO never owed us shit) because Putin asked nicely.

I've spent several days trying not to dwell on the question of so what will happen to Ukraine now which I know isn't the only country in trouble but it's the one closest to me personally.

President Harris would've continued supporting Ukraine. The next administration... not so much.

Yeah, like. The big thing for me is that I know that the actual likelihood of anything happening internationally that threatens Finland is really low. But I also know that the likelihood of our internal politics getting fucking insufferable for the next eight years is extremely high, because that's what happened the last time Trump was elected and immediately made a huge mess of international politics.

But if I talk about how this will embolden Finnish racists, I get crickets from Finns, so I have to keep contextualising this in an internationally comprehensible way. Finland is not gonna be the next Ukraine -- I am actually way more concerned for the Baltic nations, because I also don't want to see more war in Europe, because that will make racist-ass protectionist entrenchment worse, making racism in Finland worse!

But I have to care or I'll go crazy. I can't lie to myself and act like it's fine because I won't ever personally know any of the people this will harm, because it harms me and it harms my culture that the choices other people make somewhere else let Finns be more cruel to people who have done jack shit to us. I can't stop thinking about this through the lens of How This Affects Me and How Will This Make The Nationalism So Much Worse, because I don't want to not care about both the people I never meet and the people I have to share a country, an economy and a culture with!!!
