Aikido lessons seem to follow a pattern:

  1. I don't know what I'm doing wrong
  2. Sensei shows the correct way of doing the thing and I have a "... huh" moment as I get a feel for it.
  3. I know what I'm doing wrong, but I don't know what I'm doing right

...I will say, that feeling never really goes away? even after a decade of doing aikido, I still have that exact sequence of emotions about technique sometimes.

(generally I figure that anything sensei isn't correcting is something I'm doing correctly enough that they aren't worried about it.)

I think at a certain level intuitive is about what you're practiced, because at this point most of the movements in aikido are fairly intuitive to me -- except when they really really aren't and I need to stand there going '...what' for a minute before I figure out what the flow's supposed to be. But I can also definitely see how they aren't intuitive, especially coming from a different background. :)

xD yeah that part's fun. It's usually about momentum and body structure? But that's not always the clearest thing to figure out when you're still busy worrying about 'okay my foot goes here and my hand goes here'.
