So this thing started getting notes because it was reblogged by someone popular and I have already made the "anthropology is descriptive, dipshit" addition to it before, but now I'm very tempted to make the other addition, which is just me, in-character as robot evopsych scientist, rambling about Megatron's poor post-function politics and how it was always gonna turn out to be some fascist-at-worst-utopian-at-best nonsense akin to the Monoformer movement, but I don't know how to make that post without throwing some extreme shade on the parts of the fandom I was throwing shade at with the original caricature of the "Functionist scumbag".

Like I'm just saying in a fandom obsessed with Functionism Bad at lot of people don't seem to realise that the politics they put into the fiction would diegetically make them functionist, y'know?

I am having thoughts tbh. I feel like there’s some folks who talk pretend robot politics in a purity culture ‘The bad robot politics are wrong and I don’t support them because I’m a good person!’ way.

Which leads to shallow exploration of functionalism because of a fear of even exploring ‘bad’ robot politics lest you support the ‘bad’ things they’re supposedly reflecting.

Even in universes like g1 where functionalism doesn’t exist and I would bloody like to write about frame type coding differences without worrying about people acting like I’m reinventing TERF nonsense or something.

(I am very tired and possibly grumpy. I may not be being charitable here.)
