Every time I'm told that a narrative element/characterisation cue in a piece of TF media is from the comics I get inexplicably annoyed, especially if I'm spotting it based on just my fandom osmosis understanding of the IDW1 run.

Oh, it's just a reference and it's pointless for me to analyse it in the context of the narrative we were talking about because inevitably someone will tell me I'm wrong for not taking the context of the thing I haven't read into account? Okay then 😒
