Localisation?

It just occurred to me that a lot of high-profile Garbage™ (I was thinking about the Bay Transformers movies but a lot of other action schlock, TV and film alike) gets dubbed in non-Anglophone markets.

I wonder how that affects their quality? How many liberties do -- for example -- the Chinese dubs of the Bayverse films take? Are they still the kind of unbearable grating nonsense they are in English or does the localisation... I don't want to say "fix" them, but at least improve them?
