yvannairie: Ratchet (TFP) pinching his forehead in exasperation (facepalm)

I've been playing Indivisible and I got to what is probably the first quote-unquote "real" boss of the game -- we've fought this dude and some other monsters before, but this one is the first one where there's a platforming gauntlet between the stages off the boss, and it feels very much like this motif of the boss shoving you back and then shooting environmental hazards at you will be a theme, b/c it's giving me lots of time to get used to it.

Too much, honestly.

The boss has three phases, and at the end of each you get yeeted half a screen away and you gotta run through a fireball-dodging gauntlet. The first one isn't bad, it's mostly just timing jumps, but the second one has a climbing section that has you doing axe-jumps (you can jump away from a wall infinitely, but you can only jump up the wall after timing an axe strike that lets you hang off the edge, and if you manage to get past that, there's a gauntlet of literal walls of fire with very little save zone between them.

If you die to this, you start at the save point before the first phase. Cool.

Also, if you do get past the fireball hell, whatever level of damage you have carries into the next phase of the fight, and Maha Ravannavar has an AOE attack that hits for multiple hits (only the first one can be "perfect parried") and hits the whole team, meaning that the fight can start, and then literally end before you can get a hit in.

:(

The game is really fun, though -- I'm excited to see how the team's dynamic develops, what kind of revelations there will be about the other important team members, and what kind of developments we get into the combat system. I'm still kind of trying to understand what sort of a "rhythm" the game wants out of me, but I also feel like I'm kinda in that state where I just don't know shit about the game yet, so I'm cool mostly sucking at it.
