Updating the date on your post effectively "reblogs yourself" back up other people's reading page in case you want that post with effort to be seen again.
(I'd still maybe recommend having something like a "Originally posted on: [date] on it though, in case you ever wanna backdate it back to its original position.)
(This may or may not be a DW Crime, I'll let someone who's been here longer to explain to me if it is.)
