They absolutely do. Someone who is popular and genuinely into it gets excited and starts hornyposting a ton, people with weak self-conceptions are like "oh yeah, me too, totally" and start posting about it also, people who think it's a meme start posting about it, it starts trending on PornHub, it becomes inescapable and eventually there's a backlash (mainly from people who are tired of it, occasionally dressed up as a purity police outrage), which makes those who weren't already into it stop posting, which creates a horny vacuum for someone to insert their favourite niche kink into, someone popular who is into it gets excited, etc etc.

If you're someone with a stable roster of fetishes who doesn't follow a lot of self-described funny guys you wouldn't even notice it going on, except maybe as an influx of people engaging with your hornyposting b/c it's on trend. I basically only ever notice if it's a kink I dislike and suddenly have to blacklist because nobody will stop posting about it, or when it gets bad enough that it starts breaking containment and doesn't get tagged anymore.
