Yeah, after some further reading, I found out how to do markdown on the HTML writer -- which is the one I use on mobile. Which makes everything a lot easier, since I also don't have a phone that can do hotstrings and typing out HTML on a mobile keyboard is the worst aggravation that I've ever experienced.
In general I've found that the autoformatting on the HTML writer is really solid? The posts come out looking the way I want even if I'm a little wonky about remembering to open/close certain tags.
