Social media platforms: they care about the media, not the person.

More and more, I really dislike them as a concept.

I mean, I also think that this applies to kudos on Ao3

How much it's just "humanity inherently likes Number Go Up" and how much of it is that a lot of people using AO3 have been conditioned by Instagram and Twitter to view a specific Number Go Up as a high-value marker is debatable.
