Saturday, 22 July 2023 16:11Honestly realising that the fucking... dashboard redesign drama actually set off my OCD for the first time in what feels like a full year really puts into contrast why I so loathe people doing performative wagon-rounding about how we need to go harass the staff to revert this in the name of disabled users who cannot tolerate disruptions to their routines.
Like... It's not anyone's fault I got triggered. Just like it's not anyone's fault that those users are experiencing real distress and a lack of grounding. But the contrast really struck me as deeply unpleasant, and if the result is that Tumblr backs off on a change that I was excited about, I'm probably gonna feel a ways about that for a while.

Saturday, 22 July 2023 18:52TBH the biggest thing that comes to mind when people say that some jobs can't be handled with shorter shifts is asking "why not schedule shifts that overlap? Why not have some shifts share hours so information can be organincally conveyed between the people working to keep everyone on the same page? Why would the solution to there being too much work to do not turning that work into a relay race?"
I recently moved to a shift where I come to work an hour before the evening shift, which overlaps with the morning shift by a full hour. This helps immensely, as we have time to discuss what steps have been taken on various machines, what the work queue looks like, how quickly everyone needs to work to keep everything running. It's literally a convenience, and I am just one guy! Many hands make light work, right?
