Balcony cleaning checklist
Thursday, 22 October 2020 12:46We got snow! My balcony is not covered, so I gotta move the plants around and put away the ones that are ready for wintering before they freeze in their pots, and generally clean away the summer set-up. It's a lot of steps, and I'm very tired.
- Take down the curtain rod and put the curtains in the washer. They're cotton, so they're probably fonna be fine being washed directly after sitting out in the rain.
- Cut down the sunflowers and the tomato stalks. Clean off herbs. (I have some mint left, and a little bit of cabbage. IDK what to do about the cabbage. I've basically just left it up to keep bugs away and probably isn't edible anymore.)
- Take the moneywort and the clematis downstairs. Water well beforehand. They've already turned brown, and can winter in the dark at 10C just fine.
- Sweep the balcony, empty the water buckets and wash them. Clean the empty pots, take them downstairs with the dirt sacks.
- Move the raspberry in the corner and cover it so it stops getting so much water. It's still wholly green, I'm gonna wait for the leaves to turn at least a little brown before I take it downstairs.
I really dislike taking the green away from my balcony. I might go grab a winter juniper to stick in one of the pots to have something to look at until it gets too dark for that.
