Ohhh I think I worked out what my problem with the Half A Mind sequel has been.

I haven't really properly established how these characters get so much said with the little they have time for, and if it's even a problem that they need to take their time when talking and aren't having a lot of that, yet.

Solution -- write the "flirting with guns" thing, as it's set way before they developed their rapport and are both adorably tongue-tied around each other, and also scrap basically the entire first scene and rework the dynamic to be less mutually confused and more just frustrated and filled with a lot of "just so we're both clear -- you're still cool with this?"

I'm a real genius sometimes. What is the problem with this story that the only thing I like about it are the parts where the main characters are talking to each other, hmmmmmm
