Watching Lyrical Nanoha reminds me of how much I love Subaru.

I really need to find someone to draw me art of her.

I started watching BBK/BRNK because the aesthetic interested me, and while it definitely looks like a 300 minute video game cutscene, the worldbuilding concepts are pretty interesting (4 magical weapons/limbs + a heart make a team that makes Great Big Magical Armours come to life) and the interplay of the characters has so far been pretty interesting as well.

I especially like how much Kinoa reminds me of Kaine. Her weapons also have really cool designs and I enjoy seeing a female character who is both practical and a huge troll at the same time.

Here's hoping the show doesn't completely fall apart :'D I somehow hadn't heard of it before, so I'm not expecting it to be very good, but I'm already a quarter done and it's been totally fun.

I s2g what the fuck.

Spoilers for BBK/BRNK but. Like, one of the villains talked/acted big game like he'd somehow taken advantage of one of the members of the main cast (heavily implying he took her virginity) (when she was like. Thirteen, and he was past his twenties) and it's incredibly uncomfortable and it actively made me cringe when the show then tried to

And now it turns out??? They were talking about her first kiss the entire time?????

What the fuuuuuuuck, that was literally the most tonedeaf fucking thing I've ever seen. I mean, now it makes sense that they thought they'd get away with humanising him later despite him acting like a complete sadist bastard the entire time but. Seriously what the fuck.

(That's definitely a spoiler I'm gonna spring on everyone I show this show to because holy fuck was it uncomfortable thinking one of the main characters had Rape As Backstory, and I'm infinitely relieved they weren't that fucking crass.)

(Holy shit.)

(Also I forget that first kisses/first loves are supposed to be a big deal.)

The Yikes of Season 1 aside, BBK/BRNK is pretty good.

I enjoy how much the art style develops -- the first season has some particularly janky "Cell-shaded video game cutscene" level animation, but the later seasons really start owning the fact that this is 3D and you gotta do certain things in a 3D way to get 3D to work. Characters don't have the kind of dynamic, expressive lighting something like ASW games have, though, so it's still not the best cell-shaded CGI I've seen.

The fighting coreography is wholly competent and extremely gorgeous. Posing is good and fight scenes stay readable thanks to a solid use of colour and character designs that have strategically glowing elements, letting the eye orient itself even when shit's going crazy.

Also, the weapons have a very particular heft to them, especially Raijoudou and Kinoa's larger sword -- an interesting example because it can literally float in the air, yet moving it while it's floating has a delay that sells the mass and power behind the swing really well.

Oubu's design isn't super special but the rest of the Buranki are pretty cool-looking.
