Do you ever get sad because your read of a work goes to interesting places while you realise that there's no way the game is actually that clever (and also, if it was the case you would have already heard the video game reactionaries lose their howling minds about it?)

Ah, well.

I would still find it a lot more compelling if Sam, with his fear of being touched, didn't also randomly have a dead wife with the same name as BB's mother, but rather had lost his own child in the voidout.

Sam is a repatriate, after all -- he can just come back from the dead -- and presumably his child would have been born with DOOMS from being exposed to chiralium in the womb, but since we know Deadman nor BBs have Ka, and you need a Ka to return from the dead, Sam's child could have easily been young enough that it died as a stillbirth while Sam was still in the Seam.

This would also explain a lot of the cesarean surgery imagery around Sam and Unger, as well as the imagery with the doll -- Unger's child was taken from him in a metaphorical Cesarean as it was made into a BB, and Lou replacing the doll inside Sam when he comes back from the Seam shows that Sam now has a connection to the land of the living through him -- his strand connecting to Lou instead of the place he died, while Ungers strands are loose.

And hey, this way the woman in the picture could just be Amelie and we could maybe, like, have some closure between him and Sam, and an explanation on why she's undying.
