If your grown-up kid still thinks the thing you did is bad, then maybe you should confront their experience of what you did and deal with that instead of acting like this adult still has a kid's mindset and doesn't realise that not everything a parent does feels good but that doesn't make it not necessary.
Like, if a wholeass adult is challenging your behaviour, insisting just aren't "grown" enough is just talking down on them, and won't solve the problem.
