Xenoposting 7.3.

Man it's such a bummer that everything about Colony 0 is so boring and uninspired. It's an interesting concept and feels like a fairly important bit of worldbuilding, knowing that the Moebius literally have a secret police at their disposal that puts a stop to anyone trying to work out a way to stop the war, but it's horribly held back by the choice to make that plotline the "omg, child soldiers, isn't that fucked up?" plotline also.

And it doesn't help that I just... don't like Segiri as a character. There's just too many things about her that bother me too much to let go -- the way she's the only one doing the "emotionless not-actually-robot little girl" routine at the Colony (or in!! The entire fucking setting!!), the way her design has some cool details and is conceptually solid but is ultimately held back by being obvious bait, and the way her character undercuts the narrative due to poor acting and worse writing... she's just a wasteland of potential, and it's so grating that so much of the pretty-neat worldbuilding is tied to a character and a secondary cast that are just complete unlikeable millstones on the actual plot being told with them.

I also just found the way Sena was written in that questline... frustrating, I wanted her to have more substantial plot for herself. I didn't really vibe with her bringing the silly back to these kids, it just kinda clashed with everything else and clashed with the concept of Colony 0 -- they just didn't do enough to sell it, and I can't be appealed to just based on cute kids, especially when they're supposed to be more hardened than even some of the tenth-terms, and Sena was already getting robbed by being reduced to a bit part in Ghondor's story.

Colony 0 is like the one part of the game where I have almost nothing positive to say that isn't massively outweighed by both legitimate criticisms and completely petty nitpicks. I'm usually good at making things work for myself but fuck trying to write around Segiri and just how completely uncompelling she is to me is too frustrating to bare. Bah, humbug.
